Pekes as Therapy Dogs
and AKC Canine Good Citizens
By Nancy Bowman
Pekes make good Therapy Dogs and get to go to nursing homes. They must all pass an AKC Canine Good CitizenŐs (CGC) Test. I am an evaluator for the CGC Test through the AKC. I would be glad to evaluate any Pekingese that would like to go to a nursing home or visit the VeteranŐs Hospital. You can contact me at: njbowman@suddenlink.net
Do you have more pictures of your dog than any other family member? Do you refer to your dogs as 4 legged children? Did you purchase a King size bed so your dog can sleep comfortably too? When shopping for a new car do you make sure that you will have enough room for the dog? If you answered yes to any of these questions then you might just be a dog lover. The Pekingese Club of America is full of others just like you. Pekingese in Obedience get to go visit nursing homes and the VeteranŐs Hospital and allow the patients to interact with them. Therapy dogs are proven to have a positive impact on the well-being of patients. Pekes also get to be in Parades and interact with crowds of children that come out to see the parades.
If you are a Pekingese lover and would like more information about our The Pekingese Club of America, please contact any member of the Board of Directors (See the ŇContact usÓ page on this website).
